The What do the Marker Lights mean?

Before the advent of the large identification boards now seen on the front of the current trains on the system, maker lights were used to identify what line the train was running on.
Each marker light was a double made up of a red and white lens, this waa to use what was available and standardised the installation.
The light configurations shown below are based on the ‘left’ side being the drivers side.
Below is a description and example of each line.
