RAIL CORP HERITAGE
PROCURES RAIL TRACTOR
X212
FOR HERITAGE CENTRE
Rail Corp Heritage has obtained from Freight Rail Port
Kembla, Diesel Rail Tractor X212 for permanent use as a
shunter at the Redfern Heritage Centre. The photos show
X212's arrival on 23rd September, 2000.
A full inspection has been carried out, and work has
commenced on restoration to full operating condition. The
"Hercules" 250HP motor (not the original type fitted to
this unit) is missing it's diesel fuel injector pump, so a
quest has now started to find a suitable replacement. The
cab body has suffered some rust problems which have
already been treated as of 10/10. Initially the mechanical
operating condition is a priority as the unit is badly
needed to assist in shunting Road 0 (and others) to
prepare for the return of Set F1 from Flemington.
Ultimately the unit will receive a coat of paint courtesy
HET volunteers sometime soon. Training of drivers for the
unit will also commence soo n. The SRA have requested a
quote to restore the unit to operating condition ASAP
