Steve's Treks

Welcome to Steve’s Treks, our intrepid traveller who has a fascination with any thing that can fit through the lens of a camera (and then some). Over the years, many would have seen Steve Walker’s photo’s gracing our web site. Well since Steve  acquired his new camera (saves the image to a DVD) there has been no stopping him. Through Steve’s camera we have  gone to places that many would have never gone or been able to go. Thanks heaps Steve.

I do believe on this occasion I have one of the hardest tasks. I have to sift through hundreds ( yes hundreds) of quality snaps that Steve takes to document his travels.

We are extremely lucky to have Steve record these treks, as he goes to places that we would like to but never find the time.

Steve finds the time and is kind enough to allow us a glimpse of his travels. I must apologise to Steve as I am not able to post all of his fine pictures.

This time Steve has gone off to Queensland again, the photos are not in any travel order as I have placed then in subject order.

Steve has wandered around Movie World, travelled on QLD Rail, taken a trip on the QLD Outback and ended up at Longreach, the home of QANTAS. Here he visits an amazing array of exhibits that only QANTAS could show. 747’s, DC3, Connie the Constellation to name a few.

So join me in the quick round up of the next trip of Steve. Who knows where he will end up next time.

Enjoy.

First snap is at a Maritime Museum, this appears to be a Corvette but the name is not visible , will do some research to locate K377
At first glace I thought this to be one of our silver’s , but on closer examination the truth comes out , they copied us.
Some people will exhibit anything, like this beautifully restored 1281. I started to think of our clean modern transport Museum, then I woke up.

Yep were at Longreach, and the QANTAS exhibits. To keep these in excellent condition can you imagine the costs.
One the first 707’s that QANTAS had ( if not the first), these were a great work horse and in some countries are still in use. The noise level attributed to there demise.
A 747 sits idle, seems almost a sin to ground a plane that was meant to fly

Another view of the 747, where else can you have a leisurely stroll through a jumbo.
Have you been sitting in a plane and wondered what separates you from the outside world. Well I here to tell have you been sitting in a plane and wondered what separates you from the outside world. Well I’m here to tell you….not much!.
747’s the leading technology of their day….YEAH! then why is the pilot drive with something that looks at home in the 30’s?

Another view of what separates you from the outside, remind me to thank Steve for that
Well you’ve arrived ,officially that is. Longreach central, founded in 1916
When I saw this station I though they were kidding, but no it’s the real thing, I bet at the time it was a good idea.

Had to throw this in. This is a great restored unit, a beautiful Garrett. These were the top of the tree for steam, and this is a great example.
